silhouette history

Read and reflect: silhouettes

The technique of silhouetting can be used to add glamour and intensity to many everyday photographs. the silhouette can be described as a well-defined, black shape that stands out against a brightly lit, uncomplicated background. Each photo works well because the silhouette adds to the mood of an already strong image. The result may appear elementary, the creation of such a photograph is not always easily accomplished. The photographer must learn to deviate from the rules generally followed when taking a normally- lit picture by adjusting for a different relationship between light and subject. The background must be brighter than the subject – which from the photographer’s point of view should be in shadow – in order to achieve an exposure that will result in a black, distinct form against a bright, crisp background.

SANDY SKOGLUND

For Erik Johansson the process was in the planning instead, and when you take a photograph with a camera, the process ends when you press the trigger, to him it felt like photography was more about being at the right place and the right time.

He wanted to create something different, something where the process starts when you press the trigger. photos where you will need a brief moment to think to figure out the trick. It’s more about capturing an idea than about capturing a moment really.

so the things that makes a photograph looks realistic it’s the things that we don’t even think about, but when combining photographs. 3 rules to follow are; the photo should have the same perspective. Secondly, photos combined should have the same type of light. the third one is about making it impossible to distinguish where the different images begin and end by making it seamless.

HDR MEANING

HDR means High Dynamic Range. HDR brings out the deepest shadows and the brightest highlights of a scene. This tool is useful for outdoor locations and interior real estate images. But, it can also add a fantasy element to creative photo manipulation. The problem with HDR photography is that it is often overdone. The way that photographers achieve photographs with a very high dynamic range such as the one above is by combining different exposures of a photograph where the detail can get captured at each exposure and then the best of each photograph is combined. HDR photography is a technology that lets you create shots that will have a high brightness range. Simply put, one image will correctly display the tones and shades of all objects, both dark and light ones.

fill flash outside

Fill flash acts as a supporting light, one that pops a bit of brightness back into those too-dark areas. It lets you get a shot that is well exposed in the background and the foreground. Fill flash is especially useful on sunny days when the harsh overhead light beats down on your subject and casts lots of unwanted shadows.

You can also use fill flash when the sun is low in the sky and your subject is backlit, or when your subject is in the shade and the background is bright, or a number of other times when you have a dark subject on a bright background.

10 tips to good flash photography

  1. The key to creating better lighting is to bounce the flash against another surface.
  2. diffuse the light that comes from your flash.
  3. allowing the ambient light and your background to appear will add context to your subject and give your photo a sense of atmosphere.
  4. without matching the light temperatures, your image will look unnatural and it becomes easy for viewers to tell that a flash was used.
  5. Using the Through-The-Lens (TTL) mode of your flash unit helps make shooting under changing ambient lighting conditions a whole lot easier.
  6.  Going beyond 1/125 or 1/250, depending on your camera model, will leave large sections of black in your final image thanks to the shutter blocking the image sensor mid-exposure.
  7. The concept of using more than one flash unit is simple: you use multiple lights to create shadows, highlights, and sometimes even rim lights on your subject.
  8. To create the traditional studio quality three-point lighting setup, you’ll need a key light facing your subject and positioned close to either side of the camera, a fill light facing your subject and positioned near the other side of the camera, and a backlight behind the subject
  9. Reason why your camera’s native sync speed doesn’t work well with your flash is that the flash duration is shorter than fast shutter speed exposures.
  10. Using flash gels is a great way to add interest and color to your photo. They can be attached to your flash to add a colored tint to the light that it emits.

SOCIAL AND POLITICAL ISSUES IN ART

I think that racism is going to exist forever, and not just black people are discriminate, white people too. White people are discriminate because of how pale they look or because they are too white. Brown people are discriminate because they are too white or too brown. I wish people wouldn’t care about the color skin of other people. I’m against racism because that can hurt someone else’s feelings.

Travel photography is one of the more unique genres because it can be so general.  It can encompass landscape, portrait, still life, action photography, and so on, with the understanding that these subjects inform a sense of place or location. Travel photography typically revolves around areas that are away from home, and are often unfamiliar. Kerr has visited and photographed in more than 30 countries, ranging from the Himalayas to a river-rafting trip down the Colorado River, and nearly everywhere in between. Kerr prepares for each trip by getting a general sense of a place online; familiarizing himself with general terrain, sites, and light; and then begins brainstorming ideas for how he can depict scenes uniquely.  “I generally travel with two digital bodies, a Canon EOS 5D Mark III and a smaller APS-C body… my standard grab-shot lens is the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, and I’ll have the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM handy for longer-range subjects. I always have fast 35mm and 50mm primes with me, too, for low-light and selective-depth-of-field portrait opportunities.”

landscape photography is one of the most well respected and oldest styles of photography. landscape photography moves at a slower pace with more time and energy focused on crucial compositions, perspectives, and timing, in a conservative and methodical way. landscape imaging does not rely nearly as much on pure speed, silence, and smoothness of focusing, but rather its accuracy. When photographing within the landscape, this ability to reproduce colors and tones as they are is a certain priority and, as previously mentioned, speed-oriented performance can take something of a backseat in order to ensure the utmost in accuracy and consistency. Landscape photography is all about handling and placing elements of a natural scene into an aesthetic composition, with respect shared between personal visions and capturing the lay of the land.

What I Learned About Camera Exposure and Camera Modes

A photograph’s exposure determines how light or dark an image will appear when it’s been captured by your camera. In photography, the exposure settings of aperture, shutter speed and ISO speed are analogous to the width, time and quantity. Aperture: controls the area over which light can enter your camera. Shutter speed: controls the duration of the exposure. ISO speed: controls the sensitivity of your camera’s sensor to a given amount of light. A camera’s shutter determines when the camera sensor will be open or closed to incoming light from the camera lens. A camera’s aperture setting controls the area over which light can pass through your camera lens. The ISO speed determines how sensitive the camera is to incoming light.
